Arlene Frances Peck was born on September 30, 1921, on a farm near Castalia, Iowa, the daughter of George and Annie (Torkelson) Walvatne. The family later moved to West Union, Iowa, where she attended school. After graduating from West Union High School, Arlene moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where she was employed in a local business office.
She was united in marriage to Willard Peck on March 30, 1948 in West Union, Iowa. To this union was born five children; Larry, Duane, Harlan, Joseph, and Marilyn. After she and Willard moved to Strawberry Point in 1977, Arlene was employed by the Postal Service for several years. Arlene was a homemaker and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She loved to bake, read, and do crafts and puzzles. Her children and grandchildren were very special to her.
After Willard’s death, Arlene moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and lived with her daughter until September 28, 2015. She was a resident of the Edgewood Convalescent Home at the time of her death.
The most important day in Arlene’s life was in June, 1943, when she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, realizing that “Jesus died for me”. She enjoyed this peace and comfort for over 72 years and was in fellowship with the Christians who gather to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in Manchester, Iowa and Marion, Iowa.
Arlene is survived by her five children: Larry of Reno, Nevada; Duane and his wife Jolene of Edgewood, Iowa; Harlan and his wife Cheryl of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Joe and his wife Dee of Chandler, Arizona; Marilyn of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; and thirty-three great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law: June Walvatne of Hawkeye, Iowa and Betty Walvatne of Sumner, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Peck; five sisters; Gladys Wardell, Hazel Walvatne, LaVanda Walvatne, Marian Walvatne, and Helen Smid; and three brothers; Vernel, Harold, and Norris.
