Arlene P. Kramer, 94, of Earlville, died Monday, March 5, 2012. Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Thursday, March 8, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Earlville conducted by Rev. Dennis Quint. Visitation: 2:00 pm-8:00 pm, Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, with an 8:00 pm Scripture Service. Additional Visitation 9:00-10:00 am, Thursday at the funeral home prior to the Mass. Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Earlville.
Arlene was born March 17, 1917 in Monti the daughter of Patrick and Marie (Duggan) Coleman. She attended country school and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1934. Following graduation, Arlene worked at the Friendly Cafe in Manchester. Arlene was united in marriage to Robert L. Kramer on October 10, 1939 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester. The couple farmed in the Troy Mills area, Manchester and then in Earlville. They moved to the town of Earlville in 1955. In 1957 they purchased the Earlville Locker which they owned and operated for 19 years. Arlene also worked at Martin's Bakery in Dyersville, the Elite Cafe, Y Truck Stop in Delaware, and helped with the Senior Meal Program in Earlville. Robert passed away on February 3, 1993.
Arlene is survived by her children, Beverly (Dasil) Darrow of Waverly, Don (Dianne) of Dyersville, Tom of Earlville, and Randy (Laurie) of Delhi; a daughter-in-law, Karolyn Kramer of Freeport, IL; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters in-law, Leta (Ed) Holtz, Mary (Wally) Wheeler, Jeanne Coleman, and Dora Mae Coleman.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert; a son, Ronald Kramer; a great-grandson, Brevin; daughter in-law, Kris Kramer; siblings, Vanieta Cole, Arbutus Robinson, Phyllis Peyton, Donald Coleman, Duane Coleman, Patrick Coleman; her father and mother-in-law; Albert and Olive Kramer; and two sister-in-laws, Ethel Scovel and Hazel Coleman.
Arlene was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Earlville Community Club, and the VFW in Manchester. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, dancing and loved being with her friends and family.
A memorial fund has been established in Arlene's memory.
