Arlene Marilyn Kouba, 90, of Center Point, Iowa, died Thursday, October 7, 2010, in the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, Iowa. Services: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by Ken Graham. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Nancy Brendel and husband Jon of Center Point, Susan Hutchinson and husband Tom of Stow, Ohio, Marlyn Crook and husband Henry of Los Gatos, California and Dr. James Kouba and wife Lesle of Bloomfield, Iowa; grandchildren, Ian Brendel, Megan Brendel, Anne Hutchinson, Andrew Hutchinson and wife Andrea, Christine Crook, Patrick Crook and wife Leslie, Seth Kouba and wife Grace, Aaron Kouba and Emily McCoy and husband Nicholas. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Elizabeth Brendel, Cole Hutchinson, Avery Hutchinson and Aiden McCoy; and brother, Richard Zabokrtsky and wife Arlene of Walker.
Born October 15, 1919, in Center Point, Iowa, Arlene was the daughter of Frank and Emma (Lala) Zabokrtsky. On June 12, 1943, she was united in marriage to Arthur Charles Kouba in Center Point. He died January 18, 2003. Arlene earned her Teacher’s Certificate from Upper Iowa Teacher’s College and taught in Prairie Dale #6 Country School and then the Center Point Consolidated School from 1957 to 1984.
Arlene’s joys were painting, drawing, crossword puzzles and her flower garden.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Center Point and Betty’s Grove Homemaker Club.
Arlene was a loving mother and grandmother who loved her family and had a love of teaching.
A memorial fund has been established in Arlene’s memory.
