Ardith “Ardie” Lorraine Biederman, 83, of 2333 2nd Street S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2007, in Mercy Medical Center, following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Thomas McDermott. The family will greet friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church the day of the service. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; daughters, Terry (Chuck) Claassen of Unionville, Missouri, Janie (Dan) Baldus of Waterloo and Patti (Brian) Schulte of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Hubie (Letha) Ebsen of Nichols, Georgia; twelve grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Gladys Ebsen; sisters, Zelda Eckley and Delaine Kessell; and a son, William Biederman III.
Ardie was born April 3, 1924, in Albee, South Dakota, the daughter of Hubert and Gladys (Hartson) Ebsen. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids. On June 20, 1942, she married William (Bill) Biederman in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She retired after 23 years from Rockwell Collins as a Quality Inspector.
Ardith was a member of St. Ludmila's parish and frequently made kolaches for the parish Kolach Festival. She was also a den mother, enjoyed woodworking and hand built a Grandfather clock. She loved gardening where she was known for her spectacular tulips. Ardie was always close to sports and athletics and won her high school top athlete award. She was a long-time season ticket holder and avid follower of the Hawkeye women's basketball team. Ardie enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Jones Park, Ellis and Twin Pines Women's Golf Associations, was a top competitor in the City Amateur, was twice the Golden Girls city-wide champion, and had a hole-in-one April 29, 2000, in Biloxi, Mississippi. Her friendships with the Grasshoppers group were special to her.
Ardie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always there for her family and friends' events and shared the pride of their accomplishments.
