Anton "Tony? G. Gaimari, 71, of 529 Ashford Dr. NE, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, following a sudden illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha by Father Neil Manternach. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a vigil service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Addie of Cedar Rapids; his children, Gail (Mark) Shelton of Cedar Rapids, Ellen (Jeff) Collins of West Branch, Janet (Rob) Johnston of Camarillo, California, David Gaimari of Othello, Washington and Kristin (Glenn) Varner of Marion; daughter-in-law, Patty Andersen of Janesville, Wisconsin; two sisters, Gloria (Larry) Perpoli of West Lake Village, California and Carole (Alan) Gotsch of Simi Valley, California; and fourteen grandchildren, Ryland, Annie and Audrey Shelton, Leigha, Adam and Sarah Collins, Emily and Elliot Johnston, Brittany and Tony Gaimari, Gerard and Graham Gaimari and Jacob and Kristie Varner.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gregg in September of 2002.
Tony was born June 27, 1934, the son of Anton and Concetta (Varuzzo) Gaimari in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from St. Mel?s High School in Chicago and then graduated from Coe College in 1957 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music. On June 8, 1957, he married Adeline M. Biderman at St. John?s Catholic Church in Lisbon. Tony served with the U.S. Army during peace time at Ft. Hood, Texas. He later received his Masters Degree from Vandercooke College in Chicago. Tony taught instrumental music at Regis High School and catholic grade schools in Cedar Rapids and Marion and at Norway High School. He later became a business partner at M & S Specialized Services in Center Point. He also worked at Kwik-Way Manufacturing and GE Capital.
Tony was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #509 of Cedar Rapids and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha. He played stand up bass locally with several dance bands. Tony was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He enjoyed listening to jazz music, woodworking and playing poker. Tony?s greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.
