Anthony “Tony” R. Roling, 69, of Earlville, died Sunday, September 09, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief battle with cancer.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville by Rev. Herbert Tegeler. Family will greet friends from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a scripture service at 7 p.m., and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Earlville.

Tony was born May 14, 1938 in Asbury, the son of William and Pauline (Lena) Roling. He hauled milk for Mississippi Valley Milk Producers Association for twelve years and later hauled papers for the Telegraph Herald, Shopping News and for over twenty years for the Cedar Rapids Gazette, up until the time of his illness. Tony enjoyed spending time with his family, western movies, cars and fishing. On November 28, 1959, Tony was united in marriage to Therese Burds at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Worthington. The couple was married seventeen years until her death in 1977. Tony married Ula Torrey-Kuhse on June 29, 1991 in Earlville

Tony is survived by his wife, Ula Roling of Earlville; children: Julie Roling, Kathy (Dave) Selle, Barb (Dave) Simon, Donna (Chris) Manternach, Tim (Tobey Glynn) Roling, all of Dubuque, Jeff (Lora) Roling of Boscobel, WI, Brian Roling of Sun Prairie, WI, Ron (Deb) Kuhse of St. Olaf and Todd (Patty) Kuhse of Independence; a nephew who is fondly referred to as his other son, Ramon (Brenda) Roling of Greeley, 24 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Reittinger of Manchester, Eileen (Leon) Wessels and Lorraine (Eldon) Gravel, both of Dyersville; a brother-in-law, Curt (Betty) Torrey of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Elaine Roling of Dubuque; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, William & Pauline Roling; his wife, Therese Roling; and six brothers, Emil, Leonard, William, Cletus, Alvin and Merlyn Roling.

The Roling family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Ghosh and his staff at the Iowa Blood and Cancer Center and to the 5th floor center nurses and staff at St. Luke’s Hospital for their care and hospitality.
