Anthony “Rick” Richard Grobstich, Sr, 50, of Rochester, Minnesota, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008, in his home. Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Paul Wilcox. The family will greet friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2008, at the funeral home, where a Rosary will begin at 5:00 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Laurie; his children, Anthony Grobstich Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Anne Grobstich of Iowa City, Zachary and Jason Grobstich, both at home; his parents, LeRoy and Mary Arlene Grobstich of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Roger (Angie) Grobstich of Hiawatha and Dave Grobstich of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Linda (George) Hofferber of Hagerstown, Maryland, Pam (Ron) Lane of Marion and Deb Grobstich of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and his beloved Westie, Max.
Rick was born October 3, 1957, the son of LeRoy and Mary Arlene (Hayes) Grobstich, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On May 25, 1991, he was united in marriage to Laurie Bracy in Shueyville, Iowa. Rick worked for Sealed Air (Cryovac) for over 20 years, most recently in sales.
Rick loved traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed his yearly trips to Busch Stadium to watch the St. Louis Cardinals play and coaching sports for his sons’ YMCA leagues. Rick loved the view from his deck watching the wildlife. A graduate of the University of Iowa and an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan, he was a member of the Iowa Alumni Association and the Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.
A devoted husband and father, Rick was a kind and compassionate person who always made time for his friends and family. He added “good” to this world and his presence here on earth will be truly missed.
