Annie E. Vahl, 93, of Walker, Iowa, passed away, Monday, December 24, 2012, in her home. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, Iowa, by Pastor Larry Daubs. Family will greet friends from 1 pm to 3 pm, Friday, December 28, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughters, Violet Day of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, and Carol (David) Mallory of Walker; seven grandchildren, David Mallory, Jr., Dustin Mallory, Rahmat Day, Chalyn Day, Abraham Day, Clayton Day and Chandra Day; and a great-grandchild, Tobin Day.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Melvin Helbig and Raymond Vahl; two brothers, Harold and Alfred Griess; and a sister, Louise Griess.
Annie was born August 10, 1919, the daughter of William and Mary (Schoenfelder) Griess, in West Amana, Iowa. On December 31, 1955, she was united in marriage to Melvin Helbig. He passed away, June 11, 1992. Annie later married Raymond Vahl on October 9, 1993, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Annie most recently attended the Victory Baptist Church in Center Point.
