Annie Greiter, beloved wife, mom, grandma, daughter, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, holding her husband Mark’s hand.

Born on January 6, 1963, to Don and Rosie Grant, Annie’s life was a beautiful symphony of kindness, dedication, and love. After graduating from Ames High, Annie continued her love of the Cyclones at Iowa State with a degree in Elementary Education. This is also where she met Mark. From cheering on her son (Anthony) and daughter (Maggie) in the ISUCF’V’MB to sharing her Cyclone spirit with everyone around her, her dedication to Iowa State was unwavering.

Annie’s passion in life was founded on the establishment of strong faith, family, and friends. Annie began each day reciting quietly or aloud on the drive to school and trips with the kids her version of the Angel of God prayer. She was a lifelong lover of music that spread to her children. She was a devoted educator and her love for every student she encountered was unmatched. She believed in the power of knowledge and worked tirelessly to ensure that all children had the opportunity to learn and thrive. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives of students and families she has touched.

Annie loved every season equally; embracing the joys of summer at the pool or beach and cherishing the changing autumn leaves and winter snows. She finally realized her dream of having an in-ground pool and spent the last two summers floating and swimming with her friends, kids, and grandkids.

Annie will be remembered for her warm spirit, infectious laughter, and boundless compassion. She leaves behind a legacy of friendship unlike many others. From “the posse,” “20-somethings,” “Linn-Mar moms,” or “the girls from Ames” to weekly dinners and outings with so many others, her love and kindness will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her.

Annie is survived by her husband of 38 years, Mark Greiter of Cedar Rapids; three children, Anthony (Devon) Greiter of Ames, Nolan (Kari) Greiter of Cedar Rapids, and Maggie (Lucas) McClendon of Nicholasville, KY; five grandchildren, Terrance, Kelty, Malachi, Graham, and Daphne; and siblings, Jim (Mary Hillstrom) Grant, Joe (Mary Heartlein) Grant, Mary Margaret (Jim) Gran, Ellen (Mike) Cyr, and John (Mary DePetro) Grant. Annie is also survived by 19 nieces and nephews, and brothers- and sisters-in-law on Mark’s side who loved her dearly. She’s preceded in death by parents Don and Rosie Grant, in-laws, Karl and Barb Greiter, sister-in-law Maureen, and best friend Chris Kircher.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9th from 5 - 7 p.m. followed by a Vigil Service and sharing time beginning at 7p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. A celebration and Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, January 10th at 10 a.m. at the church. Both are open to the public. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
