Anna E. Smith, 91, of Manchester and formerly of Coggon, Iowa, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the Good Neighbor Home following a short illness.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 7, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester, with Rev. John Flaherty celebrating. Family will greet friends Wednesday, January 6 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Scripture Service, at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa. Friends may also call one hour before services, Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Ryan, Iowa.
Anna was born August 28, 1918 in Delaware County, Iowa, the daughter of James S and Anna M. (Greten) Williamson. She attended school in Coggon, graduating in 1935. She later attended Cedar Rapids Business College. On September 17, 1938, Anna was united in marriage to Clarence Smith. She worked at Rockwell Collins and later at the Linn County Treasurers and Auditors Office before retiring in 1984.
Anna was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Ryan Jolly Senior Citizen Club. She cared for her mother in her later years. Anna enjoyed reading, going to dances, and crocheting. She was a great cook, and everyone loved her pies.
Anna is survived by her six children, Jim (Carol) Smith of Castle Rock, CO, Jerry Smith (Anne) of AR, David (Kathy) Smith of Coggon, Mary Pat (Jerry) O’Leary of Manchester, Nancy (Dennis) Pflughaupt of Coggon, Sandy (Joe) Henderson of Coggon; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, James and Anna Williamson; two brothers, Jerry and Raymond Williamson; one sister, Mary Kurth; and five grandchildren, Steven Joseph Henderson, Mary Elizabeth O’Leary, Monica Marie O’Leary, Patrick Joseph O’Leary, and Teresa Anna O’Leary.
