Anna Mae Hanson, 94, of Bertram, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at The Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. The family will greet friends and family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Anna was born on April 10, 1928, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Milo Edward and Mary Madeline (Tauber) Dlouhy. In her earlier years, she was employed with the former McKesson & Robbins Drug Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and then with Rockwell Collins. At a dance, Anna met the love of her life and future husband, Clarence Hanson, Jr. They were united in marriage on June 8, 1952, in Independence. To this union, four children were born, LaWanna, Lyla, Lyle, and Larry. Together with her husband, they owned and operated the National Janitorial Service in Cedar Rapids for many years. She retired from JTec after 30 years. Anna was a phenomenal cook and baker. She made the best kolaches ever. Many of her recipes were in Anna’s head, “a little of this, and a little of that”. When she wasn’t working, Anna enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, spending time in her garden, and pruning her flowers. Being around babies and children always brought her joy. Most of all, Anna loved spending time with family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful, devoted, and caring wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, and friend; and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Anna is survived and lovingly remembered by her two sons, Lyle (Lori) Hanson of Cedar Rapids, and Larry Sr. (Jennifer) Hanson, of Fairfax, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Chris (Jordan) Hanson, Chase Hanson, Shannon (Gary) Honn, Crystal Hanson, Shane (Gio) Achenbach, Cassandra Achenbach, Robert (Cindy) Hanson, Kelly (Eric) Haack, and Skyla (Taylor) Siech; many great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Margretz, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milo and Mary Dlouhy; husband, Clarence Hanson, Jr.; two daughters, LaWanna Hanson and Lyla Hanson LeGrand; three brothers, Jerry, Milo, and Leonard Dlouhy: and one grandson, Larry Hanson, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Anna’s memory may be directed to the family to be designated later.
