Anna L. Brooks, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at home. Inurnment: Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include 4 sons, Melvin Brooks Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Eugene Brooks of Hiawatha, James Nolan Brooks of Rock Island, Illinois, and Paul Anthony Brooks of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and a host of great, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and foster children through the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Brooks, Sr.; a son, Billy “Joe” Brooks; and six siblings, Audrey Pate, Clair Etta Howard, Hazel Gooding, Paralee Cole, Emmitt Eugene Doolin Jr., and James Nolan Doolin Sr.
Anna was born January 1, 1922, the daughter of Emmitt and Lucille (Mallory) Doolin Sr. in Palmayro, Missouri. On September 5, 1937, she married Melvin R. Brooks in Rock Island, Illinois. He died in August of 2001. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting.
