Anna Mae "Annie? Pesek, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, October 29, 2006, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, from complications of a fall. Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. William Harnish. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane (Gary) Taube and Joanne (Vern) Kriz, both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jason Christensen, Jonathan (Kathy) Christensen, and Jennifer (Brad) Goldsmith; great grandchildren, Zachary, Brady and Hope Christensen; niece, Cathy (Scott) Appleget of Cedar Rapids and their children, Megan and Nick; nephew, Ron (Laura) Chramosta of Anamosa and their son, Cameron; and her grand dog, Toby.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gustav; her parents; and two brothers, William "Bill? Chramosta and Frank Chramosta, Jr.
Annie was born September 22, 1922, at home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Olga (Blazek) Chramosta. She was united in marriage on July 8, 1950 to Gustav Pesek in Danville, Illinois. He died June 27, 2002. She was a secretary for Merchants National Bank, worked for Pennick and Ford and Baker Paper.
Annie enjoyed making crafts and sewing for her Babi?s Boutique for over 20 years. She was on the Board of the Czech Fine Arts Foundation and contributed to the museum gift shop. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles, and was a lifelong fan of John Wayne. Annie loved music, the theater, reading and performed in Czech Operettas which her father wrote and directed. She loved people and was a very engaging person who loved the Christmas season. She played piano, recently learned the computer, and always enjoyed a challenge. Annie was the matriarch of her family.
