Ann E. Sharf, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following complications of cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. John Albertson of Faith Lutheran Church. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, and 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy (Brent) Rickertsen of Cedar Rapids; a son, Ronald (Dee) Sharf of Avon, Illinois; four grandchildren, Angela Roper of Cedar Rapids, Ben Sharf of San Diego, California, Douglas (Kari Smith) Hanke of Portland, Oregon, and Dennis (Michelle) Hanke of Scottsdale, Arizona; four great-grandchildren, Evan Roper, Jace Roper, Mahlan Sharf and Dylan Elliott; two sisters, Marilyn (Jerry) Jandik and Vernita (George) Stejskal, all of Cedar Rapids; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; and two sisters, Delores Ralston and Evelyn Mikulecky.
Ann was born March 6, 1922, the daughter of John and Blanche (Suchomel) Lnenicka, in Bertram, Iowa. A 1939 graduate from McKinley High School, she was united in marriage to Ralph Sharf on June 26, 1940, in Bertram. He died October 9, 2002. In 1948, they started Ralph Sharf Excavating in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1970. Upon retirement, they moved to Lake Delhi until 1999 and then moved back to Cedar Rapids. Ann was a member of the VFW Post 788 Auxiliary, Delhi American Legion Post 160 Auxiliary, the "39?ers? from McKinley and a past member of the Delhi Women?s Club. She also was active with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
For many years, they spent winters in Florida. She enjoyed fishing, camping, playing bingo, gardening, cooking, relaxing on the water and talking on the phone to friends and family. Ann was a loving mother, friend and relative who enjoyed life to the fullest and lived it on her terms.
