Lois was born on October 10, 1936, in Colesburg, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Louise (Lechtenberg) Koelker. She graduated from Earlville High School in 1954. Ann married Harold “Harry” Lahr on June 17, 1968, in Buffalo Center, Iowa; three children were born to this union. She worked as an Administrative Assist at the local Gas Company in Manchester, Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids and John Deere in Dubuque. Lois also worked alongside her husband Harry with his trucking company and auction businesses in Earlville. Lois was a faithful member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earlville.

Later in life Lois was an avid basketball superfan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the NBA and did a brilliant job of informing family of game times and dates. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and quick wit, she loved to sing and was a talented pianist which she learned to play from her mother. Most of all she loved being Mom and “Gma” and getting to spend as much time as she could with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was also everyone’s favorite aunt.

Lois is survived by her children, Shannon (Julie) Lahr of Earlville, Ann (Paul) Scallon of Solon, Matt (Lisa) Lahr of Earlville; grandchildren, Hannah Lahr (Travis Kelchen), Gavin Scallon, Mahala Lahr, and Caleb Lahr; sister, Marilyn Michael of Cedar Rapids and sisters-in-law, Betty Lois Koelker of Manchester, Rosemary Lahr of Edgewood, and Patricia (Bob) Wolfe of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Louise Koelker; husband, Harry Lahr; parent-in-laws, Raymond and Delores Lahr; brothers, Llewellyn (Bernice) Koelker, Louis “Bud” Koelker; sisters, Verna (LaVerne) Hawker, Carol (Bob) Ortberg; and her in-laws, Bob Lahr, Herman (Bev) Lahr, and Wayne Lahr.

Memorials in Lois’s memory may be directed to the local Alzheimer’s Association.

A special thank you for the exceptional care given to Lois by Denise Lympus, MSN, AGACNP-BC, FNP-BC and the staff at Regional Medical Center.
