Anker Severinsen, 97, long time resident of Marion, died Tuesday, February 25, 2003, in Macomb, Illinois. Services: 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2003, by Rev. Alfred Kaupins at St. Mark?s Lutheran Church, Marion, with visitation at 1:00 p.m., prior to service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements: Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

He is survived by one son, Norma (Rosalie) Severinsen, of Macomb, Illinois; two grandchildren, Kay (Joseph) McElroy of Naperville, Illinois, and Kris (Maureen) Severinsen of Germantown Hills, Illinois; seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews in Denmark.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, a daughter, Ruth Ann, and three sisters in Denmark.

Anker was born February 15, 1906, at Dronninglund, Denmark, the son of Ole and Petrea Severinsen. He married Maren Katherine Jensen at Aabybro, Denmark, on April 8, 1929. She died June 30, 1990. Anker and Katherine immigrated to the USA in August, 1929, farming in the Springville and Marion, Iowa, area until 1955. They owned and operated a motel in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and a nursing home in Albia, Iowa, moving back to Marion in 1965, where he worked at Gordon Hatchery and Linn-Mar School. He revisited Denmark eleven times. Anker has been an active member of St. Mark?s Lutheran Church, Marion, Iowa, and an avid dancer, joining groups at Marion, Central City, and Hiawatha weekly until November, when he moved to Macomb.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark?s Lutheran Church.
