Angela M. Grant, 87, formerly of Marion, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, in Southridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marshalltown of cancer Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2005, at First United Methodist Church in Marion, with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Burial: Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday at the church.
Surviving are her daughter, Jane (Tony) Balik of Marshalltown; and stepchildren, Laura (Jerry) Munier of Marion and Walter H. Grant Jr. of Mystic, Connecticut.
Also surviving are two grandchildren, Christy Sorsen of Ames and Justin Hanna of Solon; thirteen step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Smith, her husband, Walter Grant, and a stepson, Rodger Grant.
She was born the daughter of Homer and Ethel (Jones) Hunsaker on August 31, 1917 in north east Missouri. Angela graduated from Steffenville High School. While working at a hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, Angela met Robert F. Smith. They married in 1939. The couple then moved to the Marion and Springville areas and had one daughter, Jane. Robert died in 1973. She later married Walter H. Grant in 1976. He died in 1992.
Angela worked for Lowe, Eschman, Kinkead Aggregate for several years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion, Iowa, for fifty years. Angela was a Campfire leader, Sunday school superintendent, Bible Study member, and P.E.O. She enjoyed card clubs and neighborhood clubs, and the Ladies Aid Society of Whittier, Iowa. Angela was very involved with politics, an avid Cyclone fan and especially enjoyed playing the piano.
