Andrew H. Blakey, 77, of 1009 10th St S.E., Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, October 2, 2004, at home following a long illness. Home Going Services: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Willie Clemmons of Bethel A.M.E. Church. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites.

Survivors include his wife, Bette; his children, Nancy J. Fielder of Cedar Rapids, Stanley A. Blakey of Richmond, Virginia, Spencer T. Blakey of Cedar Rapids, Alexia A. (Mark) Taylor of Richmond, Virginia and Mark Doolin of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Justin O. Fielder, Andrew Quinn Taylor, Ward D. Taylor, Amara K. Taylor and Ayala A. Taylor Melana and Whitney; a great-grandaughter, Nevaeh; and his brothers and sisters, Emma (James) Kirk of St. Paul, Minnesota, Amity Blakey of Cedar Rapids, Marjorie Garrison of Cedar Rapids, Freda Long of Cedar Rapids and Ronald Blakey of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Blakey and three sisters, Helen Tate, Delores Montgomery and Lenora Blakey.

Andrew was born November 14, 1926, the son of Amity John and Lottie Osceola (Parkey) Blakey, in Cedar Rapids. On November 22, 1958, he married Bette A. Madlock in Chicago, Illinois. Andrew worked as a beef skinner at Wilson?s Foods and was a security guard at FMC Goss Manufacturing for 7 years. He served in the Air Force during WWII. Andrew was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed art classes and was an avid painter of many types of art.
