Anastasia Marie Chehak
July 22, 1953 — July 13, 2017
Anastasia Marie Chehak, R.D, L.D,C.D.E., was a nationally-known diabetes expert, speaker, author, radio/podcast host, a respected visionary, researcher and medical community leader for more than 30-years. She dedicated herself to inspiring all people to embrace healthier lifestyles. She passed away July 13.
Anastasia was an innovator in diabetes education, among the first to craft patient programs, services and even products, to help diabetics lead fulfilling lives. A diabetic herself, Anastasia knew first-hand the challenges of coping with diabetes but her aggressive study and leadership helped inspire so many to make healthful choices by giving them the latest tools and information available.
She founded Anastasia Marie Laboratories, Inc. more than 25 years ago. Using the latest research and her extensive knowledge of everything from skin science to nutrition AM Labs provides innovative health products for diabetics and other people looking for healthful lifestyle and anti-aging solutions. She was also founder and host of The Voice of Diabetes Network, a live radio program wholly focused on diabetes. She was author and subject of more than 100 publications in retail pharmacy and diabetes journals.
After graduating from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1978, Anastasia lead a lifelong campaign with medical professionals and civic/national leaders to find solutions and one day, a cure for diabetes. She was so honored to serve on the US Senate Health Advisory Board under President Ronald Reagan, the Advisory Board of the American Diabetes Association and the Oklahoma inter-Tribal Diabetes Coalition. She was on the ADA committee that established noted, nationwide, worldwide guidelines for foot and skin care for physicians and patients. She did groundbreaking research on Vitamin A for the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
Anastasia was engaged throughout the community, being a longtime member of the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce and St. George Greek Orthodox Church, where she served on many committees including oversight of the Greek Festival. She was involved in countless organizations, from the
Oklahoma and American Diabetes Associations, Oklahoma City Dietetic Association, to the Western Oklahoma Diabetes Educators, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, National Kidney Foundation and UNICEF. She was the Journal Record Innovator of the Year in 2003, and developed the Innovative Product of the Year in 1998 according to the Health and Beauty Retail Association.
Anastasia’s beauty and brains were not just the inspiration for so many and so much, but her heart and her faith were her greatest attributes. She touched countless lives in her many endeavors, not only wanting to educate and counsel, but inspire and promote positivity to move forward, always with Christ and faith first.
She had lived a charmed life, born to parents Norbert and Tomme Chehak July 22, 1953 in Portland, Oregon. Anastasia spent much of her childhood and teen years growing up in Europe, traveling to many countries with her family, giving her an appreciation and love for the many cultures our world has to offer. Anastasia moved to Oklahoma more than 45-years ago, the place she called home and from which she made a tremendous impact.
She is survived by her sister Stephanie Carroll, niece Frances Newton-Jones and her children Paris and Penelope Newton-Jones, many cousins including Mari-Lou Diamond, George Psihogios, many Godchildren and longtime companion Neil Owen. She was preceded in death by her parents Norbert and Tomme Chehak.
A Trisagion was held 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper and Funeral Services were 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. So beautiful inside and out, Anastasia will be so sorely missed by the many who knew her, but her lifetime of caring commitment and groundbreaking work will live on for many years to come.
