Amy "Junior" Sconyers, Jr.

Amy Sconyers, Jr., known to family and friends as “Junior”, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, December 19, 2014, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Deacon Jim Berger. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 pm Monday, December 22, at the funeral home. Military Honors will be conducted. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; his children, Pam (Joe) Staub, of Washougal, Washington, Jeryl Lynn (Bob) Burns, of Urbana, Iowa, Jackie Sumner, Randy Sconyers and Mike Sumner, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia (Mike) Lathrop of Onslow, Iowa; and brother, Doug (Sheri) Moylan of Swisher, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Ricky Sconyers; and first wife, Patricia Sconyers.
Junior was born August 9, 1936, the son of Amy and Virginia (Hartzog) Sconyers, in Enterprise, Alabama. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1955 to 1957. Junior worked as a sheet metal worker in Omaha, Nebraska, before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1959, where he started his apprenticeship with Sheet Metal Workers Local 263. He served many elected positions with Local 263, including Business Manager from 1973 to 1985. Junior retired in 1991.
Junior married Lois Siemering on December 28, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He enjoyed their houseboat along the Mississippi River and fishing. Junior also enjoyed watching the news and discussing politics. Junior was a member of the Sheet Metal Retiree’s Club.
