Alvina M. Oberbreckling, 102, of Ryan, died Monday, July 23, 2007, in her home following a brief illness.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ryan by Rev. Nick March. Family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Ryan.

Alvina was born December 8, 1904, in Dyersville, the daughter of Henry and Josephine (Albang) Timmer. On January 24, 1933, Alvina was united in marriage to Otto Oberbreckling at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. The couple farmed west of Ryan before retiring in 1985. Alvina was a long-time member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ryan. She loved fishing, playing cards, gardening, her puppies and catching night crawlers.

Alvina is survived by twelve children, Jerome (Connie) Oberbreckling of Anamosa, Madonna Gustaveson of Cedar Rapids, Lester (Delores) Oberbreckling of Marion, Delrose Phelps of Cedar Rapids, Marjorie (Rich) Wolfe of Ryan, Tom (Lana) Oberbreckling of Onslow, Herb (Kathy) Oberbreckling of Oxford Junction, Daniel (Linda) Oberbreckling of Winthrop, Ronald (Jean) Oberbreckling of Wyoming, Charles Oberbreckling of Cedar Rapids, Luke (Mary) Oberbreckling of Mechanicsville and Randy (Rose) Oberbreckling of Cedar Rapids; 40 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Julie Oberbreckling of Lamont; two sisters, Germaine Meyers of Luxemburg and Marie Dunkel of Dyersville; and a brother, Florian Timmer of Farley.

Alvina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto Oberbreckling in 1988; two sons, Markus and Arthur Oberbreckling; two granddaughters, Mary and Ashley Oberbreckling; two sons-in-law, Rick Gustaveson and William Phelps; a sister, Viola Meyers; and two brothers, Albert and Elmer Timmer.
