Alvin R. Stephenson, 66, of 303 Margarita Lane N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, January 2, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by Pastor James Wolf. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker.
Survivors include Shirley Reed of Cedar Rapids; his children, Doug Stephenson of Minnesota, Shane Stephenson of Cedar Rapids, Melissa (Terry) McMurrin of Cedar Rapids and Rebecca (Larry Cox) Stephenson of Cedar Rapids; eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild; four brothers, Ed (Judy) Stephenson of Manchester, Frank (June) Stephenson of Center Point, Cliff Stephenson (Gae) of Cedar Rapids and Curt (Alice) Stephenson of Central City; two sisters, Virginia Dixon of Winthrop and Margie (Bob) Pecinovsky of Walker; and sister-in-law, Jo Stephenson of Rowley.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tracy Stephenson; grandson, Colt McMurrin; brother-in-law, Jesse Dixon; seven siblings, Clarence, Irene, Marie, Henry, William, Shirley and David; and sister-in-law, Joyce Stephenson.
Born March 6, 1945, in Manchester, Iowa, Al was the son of Alvin and Leona (Tharp) Stephenson. Al attended school in Walker and helped on the family farm. He worked at the gas station in Center Point, John Deere’s in Coggon and was a milk hauler. He also worked for Eastern Iowa Tire and Goodyear Tire in Cedar Rapids and Banner Valley Hauling.
Al’s joys were bowling at the Walker lanes, camping and watching sports.
A memorial fund has been established in Al’s memory.
