Alvin E. Edaburn, 85, of Hiawatha, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at the home of his son, Steve, and daughter-in-law, Tami, after a short battle with cancer. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point officiated by Rev. Jeremy Husdon, St. Luke’s Hospice Chaplain. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Dye Benion Post No. 297 of Center Point.
Survivors include his children, Dennis (Lou), Florida, Steve (Tami), Marion, Tracy, New Mexico and Tammy Jo Schnedler, Hiawatha; grandchildren, Antonia, Austin, Erin, Adam, Erik, Owen and Elijah; great-grandchildren, Jakson, Kael and soon to be born, Nicole. Also surviving are his brother, Floyd, and wife, Lois, and niece, Alicia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; parents, Ernest and Gladys Edaburn; and sisters, Marian and Lorraine.
Al was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on February 25, 1922. He married Elsie Sherman on May 12, 1946. He served his country in WWII with the U.S. Army Signal Corp in France, Belgium and England. He was an electrician with IBEW and worked several years for Nesper Sign.
Al enjoyed fishing on his boat “the AL-E-CAT”, dancing, and making windmills. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with family and friends. Al was kindhearted and gave help to those who needed it.
A memorial fund has been established by the family in Al’s memory.
