Alvin L. “Bud” Koeneke, 90, of Manchester, died Friday, January 11, 2013. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester by Pastor Paddy Druhl. Visitation will be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm prior to services Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Burial; with Military Honors at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Bud was born July 19, 1922 at home in Colesburg the son of Leslie A. and Agnes A. (Nebel) Koeneke. He graduated from Colesburg High School and attended Upper Iowa University. He was drafted in the US Army on December 8, 1942 and served in the 14th Armored Division during WW II and earning a Purple Heart. Bud married Alita Reisburg on April 8, 1963 in Chicago.
Bud managed the American Legion Post 45 for 24 years. He was a 65 year member of the American Legion and Past Commander. Bud was well known as a great hitter while playing baseball for many years; while playing for the Dyersville White Hawks. He loved baseball and possessed much knowledge about the history of the game and was a loyal Dodger fan. Bud also enjoyed crossword puzzles, and loved to sing.
Bud is survived by his wife, Alita; and a son, Kevin Koeneke of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Paula Lea Koeneke on April 26, 1998; a sister, Janet (Harlen) Rohwedder; and a brother, Carrol (Dorothy) Koeneke.
A memorial fund has been established in Bud’s memory.
