Alton Claire Simpson

Alton Claire Simpson, 80, of Marion, left this life on Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2010 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion by Rev. Donald Loesch. Family will greet friends from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dolores; 3 children, James (Katherine) Simpson of Dallas, TX, Cynthia (Mark) Doolittle of Story City, and Michael Simpson of San Antonio, TX; 4 grandchildren, Matthew (Lisa) Simpson of Atlanta, GA, Caroline (Jeffrey) Endres of Ft. Worth, TX, Jennifer (Darryl) MacRunnel of Boone, and Tara (Dylan) O’Brien of Hubbard; 4 great-grandchildren, Alison, Logan, Noah, and Tessa MacRunnel; and a sister, Helen Lindholm of Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters; and 3 brothers.
Alton was born November 15, 1929 in Cedar Falls, the son of William E. and Ruth (Atwood) Simpson. He was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School and Iowa State University. In 1949, Alton was united in marriage to Dolores Kemmerer in Waterloo. He served in the United States Air Force and retired as a contract manager at Rockwell after 38 years.
Alton was an accomplished artist following his retirement, whose work had been displayed at the Marion Heritage Center. He was an avid outdoorsman who spent a lot of time hunting and fishing. In his life, his family always came first.
