Alma C. Brunsmann, 94, of Manchester, Iowa, died peacefully Sunday, September 16, 2018, at the Good Neighbor Home. Visitation: 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Bohnenkamp – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester with a Scripture Service beginning at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester, conducted by Rev. Carl Ries, with visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church and Rosary by Catholic Daughters of America recited at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment at a later date: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
Alma was born June 9, 1924, at New Vienna, Iowa, the daughter of John A. and Barbara (Elenz) Ries. She received her education at New Vienna Catholic and rural schools. Alma married Elmer Brunsmann on November 28, 1944, in New Vienna. Alma was a waitress for many years, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for over 30 years, and long-time member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW 6637. Alma enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers, and she loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Pat (Bert) Wolter of St. Olaf, Daniel Brunsmann of Manchester, Jane (Ray) Phillipson of Manchester, Alan (Deb) Brunsmann of Dyersville, and Richard Brunsmann of Manchester; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer on May 21, 1999; a great-grandson, Spencer Lee Cook; five brothers Alphonse (Gertrude) Ries, Vincent (Mercedes) Ries, Clarence Ries, Herbert (Alvina) Ries, Arthur Ries, four sisters, Dorothy (Ray) Biermann, Esther (Arthur) Steffen, Loretta (Cletus) Brunsmann, and Berniece (Francis) Gassman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
