Alma Catherine Baum, 91, of Prairieburg, died peacefully, September 6, 2008, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg by Father Walter J. Kleinfehn. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Burial: St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Prairieburg, Iowa.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Bodensteiner; a granddaughter, Angie Wallander of Anamosa; a grandson, Shawn and wife Nola Bodensteiner of Robins; great-grandchildren, David Wortman, Ashley and Cameron Wallander, and Clayton and Courtney Bodensteiner; two sisters, Mary Bentley and Virginia Homewood; a brother, Charles Wilhelm; and a sister-in-law, Sadie Wilhelm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; four sisters, Florence Blong, Betty Troxel, Adeline Sobalik, and Dorothy Wilhelm; a brother, Art Wilhelm; and a grandson, Eric Bodensteiner.
Alma was born June 21, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Wichman) Wilhelm in Waucoma. She married Leo Baum on April 6, 1940, in Bluffton. They owned and operated the Prairie Moon Ballroom in Prairieburg from 1956 to 1987.
Alma was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, her nightly ice cream cone, and spending time with friends and family.
