Alma Lucile Anthony, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the Woodlands nursing facility at Methwick. A reception to celebrate her life will be held there on March 18, 2006 at 2:30 pm in the chapel.

Lucile was born December 8, 1908, near Brandon, Iowa. She graduated from Ottumwa High School and received a BA degree from Drake University and a MFA degree from the University of Iowa. She spent over forty years teaching English and drama in many Iowa communities. Lucile last taught for seventeen years at Roosevelt Junior High in Cedar Rapids.

Lucile was a member of the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ for over 50 years. She was quite active in community organizations including the educational group, Delta Kappa Gamma. Long term memberships in other groups include PEO (50 years) and the musical sorority Mu Phi Epsilon (70 years). Camp Highlands for Boys in Sayner, Wisconsin, served as a focus of her summers for over fifty years.

Survivors include a brother, Dr. Albert McKee of Cedar Rapids; nephews Dr. Preston (Pat) McKee of Pineville, LA, Dr. John (Jana) McKee of Ames, Rex (Phyllis) McKee of Traer, Dr. Scott (Marilyn) McKee of St. Paul, MN, and John (Marlene) Anthony of Paramus, NJ; great-nephews Justin and Mark; great-nieces Jessica, Jody, Tara, Kristin, and Carrie; and special friend Janet McKee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul (Tony) Anthony; a brother Merwyn McKee; and great-niece Alison McKee.

Memorials preferred to the First Congregational Church or Camp Highlands.
