Allen C. "Al? Evans, 69, of 1616 Richmond Rd. NE, died Monday, July 28, 2003, in his home, following a lengthy illness. Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, by Sister Peg Murphy. The family will greet friends from noon until service time on Thursday. Al?s body has been deeded to the University of Iowa College of Medicine for use in research and education.
Survivors include his wife, Coleen; a daughter, Julie York and husband Lee of Cedar Rapids; a son, Chandler Evans and wife Susan of Des Moines; three stepdaughters, Deborah Stevens, Stephanie Willits and husband Bob and Michelle Jenney and husband John, all of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Richard of Orlando, Florida, and David of Lake Livingston, Texas; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his dog, Czar.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Al was born October 13, 1933, the son of Wilbur and Altheda Leffler Evans, in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. He took up residence in Eastern Iowa in 1959, when he joined the staff of KCRG-TV as Commercial Production Director and Weatherman. Al then joined Collins Radio in 1966. In 1984, he formed MPC Services, consulting in the areas of Marketing/Promotion & Communications. Al was forced into retirement in 1998, due to kidney failure and had been a dialysis patient since then.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of the founding board of directors of Junior Achievement of Greater Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Fellowship Club Inc., 3224 First Avenue, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402 in memory of Al.
