Allan John Redmond, 81, of Marion, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at his home. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, by Father David O’Connor. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, with a scripture service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Eileen; his children, Shirley Redmond of Marion, Karen (Chuck) Crutchley of Marion, John (Diane) Redmond of Watkins, Barbara Redmond of North Richland Hills, TX, Linda (Neal) Vaughn of Anamosa, and Jim Redmond of Marion; grandchildren, Teresa Redmond, Adam (Stacey) Crutchley, Blake Crutchley, Valerie (Jared) Pickett, Matt (Crystal) Wilkey, Lorie Wilkey, Taylor Redmond, Brandon Redmond, Nate Vaughn, Brady Vaughn, Kellie Vaughn, Dillon Redmond, Michael Redmond, Nic Redmond, and Jordyn Redmond; great-grandchildren, Madison, Ryan, Lyla, Danielle, Hannah, and Heleyna; sisters, Janaan Redmond, and Mary Redmond, both of Dubuque; and numerous nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Raymond Redmond; two brothers, Ray and Jim; and four sisters, Kay, Claire, Eileen, and Grace.
Allan was born December 7, 1931, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of John and Teresa (Noonan) Redmond. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict between 1951 and 1953. Allan married Eileen Merfeld on April 13, 1955, in Garryowen, Iowa. He was proud to be a lifelong farmer; he lived his life to farm. Allan was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and being involved in their lives. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion.
