Alice B. Scherbaum, 95, of Marion, died Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Willow Gardens Care Center. Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 17 at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Betty (Ed) Curtis of Arizona, Lewis (Sharon) Scherbaum of Marion and Lois (Charles) Stivers of Springville; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Meeks of Shellsburg; and a sister, Margret Kahler of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; three sisters; and one brother.
Alice was born January 12, 1917, at Fredricksburg, Iowa, to Emeral and Clara (Warner) Meeks. She attended a one room school house before moving to Vinton, Iowa. On February 2, 1938, she was united in marriage to Harold Scherbuam in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Alice and Harold moved to Cedar Rapids in 1951. She worked for New Process Laundry, Neisens Dime Store and Advance Photo Service, retiring from FMC in 1980. She was a member of Hillside Weslayan Church, where she was a 40 year member of the Weslayan Women’s Club. Alice loved to work in her yard and will be greatly missed by her family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Gardens Care Center for the loving care of Alice during her 1 ½ years and to Hospice. Also a special thanks to Pat Colton, her special friend and roommate at Willow Gardens.
