Alice L. Haynes, 90, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, died, Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at the care center, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Rev. Del Bear will officiate. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two children, Claire (Larry) Sharp and Dick (Jo) Daubenmier, all of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Florence (Carl) Graber of Lockridge, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Graig Hanson, Chris (Angie) Hanson, Dan (Shelley) Sharp, Joni (Al) Keller, Julie (Rich) Shebek, Jill (Scott) McDermott, Mike Sharp, Dion Daubenmier and Dana (Johnnie) Linzy; two stepgrandchildren, Brown (Val) Montague and Leigh Montague; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two former husbands, Eugene Daubenmier and Artie Haynes; a daughter, Judith Hanson; a brother, Paul Stewart; and two sisters, Ruth Stewart and Mary Stewart.
Alice was born November 5, 1916, the daughter of Norris and Edna (Fisher) Stewart, in Libertyville, Iowa. She graduated from the Alburnett High School as valedictorian of her class and enjoyed working on 4-H projects for which she received many awards. Alice worked as a cook for Barachauna’s Steak House, Cedar Rapids Country Club and retired from Armstrong’s Cedar Room. She had a great love for gardening, especially her roses and was well known for her cooking. Alice also was a seamstress who loved making clothes and doing alterations. After her retirement, she enjoyed bowling.
Alice was a member of the Eagle’s Auxiliary #2272 and the Cedar Rapids Bowling Association.
