Alice Margaret Hahn State, 87, of Manchester, died Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa, following a short illness. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 18, 2003 at the Manchester United Methodist Church by the Rev. David C. Wagner, Sr. The family will greet friends from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service and one hour before the church service on Saturday. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.

Alice was born July 23, 1915 in Center Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Lanie (Webster) Greene. The family farmed in Scotch Grove, Iowa, then moved to Monticello after the death of her father. Alice attended school in Monticello, graduating in 1934 with a normal training certificate. After graduating Alice went to work at Schultz Brothers Family Store. On October 14, 1936 she was united in marriage to Alva W. Hahn Sr. in Galena, IL, together they ran a small appliance store. Alice also worked at Yuska?s True Value Hardware Store in Manchester, for twenty-one years. Alva passed away on March 10, 1983. On December 7, 1988 Alice married Randall Eugene State of Manchester. Randall passed away on February 27, 1999.

Alice was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church and the Esther Circle. She loved animals, was an avid reader, enjoyed doing word puzzles and riding in the car.

Alice is survived by her son, A.W. "Junior? Hahn, of Manchester; a daughter, Phyllis Meader and husband David, of Miami Florida; four sisters, Irma Jean Caspers of Anamosa, Iowa, Marie Steensen and her husband Wayne, of North Carolina, Janice Pierce and her husband Ron, of Bellingham, Washington and Dorothy Zobel of Sarasota, Florida; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Harry Greene and Lanie Greene- Pickett, both husbands, Alva W. Hahn, Sr. and Randall E. State; and one brother Robert Greene.
