Alice Baty, 90, passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home surrounded by her family on January 30, 2017. Visitation: 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City where a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 3:30 p.m.. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Coggon. Burial: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon.

Alice was born August 27, 1926, in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of John and Gunilda (Kramer) Drees. She attended the St. Francis Xavier Schools in Dyersville and received her food service certificate at Iowa State University in Ames. She married Wilfred Krapfl August 18, 1948, in Dyersville. They divorced in 1979. After her children were raised, Alice worked at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Manchester for four years in the Dietary Department and later owned and operated a restaurant known as “Alice’s Corner” in Coggon for nine years. On February 6, 1985, she married Minor Baty and they lived on the farm until they moved to Coggon in 1998. Minor passed away September 28, 2005. Alice was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and a member of its Rosary Society. Alice loved crafts, crocheting, quilting, painting and working jigsaw puzzles.

Alice is survived by her devoted family: six daughters, Mary (Pat) Casey and Patricia Krapfl of Cedar Rapids, Dorene Krapfl and Ann Krapfl of Marion, Elaine (Bill) Schultz of Oelwein, and Beverly (Phil) Boots of Mechanicsville; four sons, Mark (Janey) Krapfl of Hiawatha, William (Becky) Krapfl of Anamosa, Daniel (Jill) Krapfl of Coggon, and Robert (Michelle) Krapfl of Ely; three step-children, Janice (Chuck) Kupka of Cedar Rapids, Charlene (Steve) Baker of Solon, and Neal Baty of Coggon; 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Anna Drees, Dyersville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Those preceding her in death are her parents; three brothers, Reynold, John and Donald Drees; seven sisters, Dorothy McGrane, Marcella Wolfe, Viola Loecke, Martha Rubly, Germaine Weigel, Marian Stelken and Sister Wilma Drees O.S.F.

Alice loved her growing and active family immensely. They were always her greatest pride and joy. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
