Alfred J. Friedmann, 92, formerly of Manchester and Coggon, died Saturday morning, February 26, 2005 at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood following a long illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester with Rev. Msgr. Ralph Simington officiating. Family and friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester where there will be a Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.

Alfred Jacob Friedmannn was born December 16, 1912 in Luxemburg, Iowa the beloved son of George and Elizabeth (Clemen) Friedman. He married Emma Rose Catherine Gosen on January 6, 1942 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg, a union that celebrated sixty years of memories. Emma died May 3, 2002

Alfred was an active member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Ryan and then upon retirement in 1976, he and his wife became active members of St. Mary?s in Manchester.

Alfred had a strong love and respect of the land which is evident in his many successful years of farming and livestock production. He was a skilled carpenter, always generous in sharing his time and talent with friends and family. He is fondly remembered for his sense of humor, his compassion and commitment to family, faith and farming and for his generosity to family, neighbors, friends and his church.

Alfred is survived by three daughters, Doris (James) Eike of Hopkinton, Millie (Ronald) Wendt of Cedar Rapids and Vera (David) Johnson of Clinton; seven grandchildren; Carol Eike Ryan and Allen Eike of Hopkinton, Roger Eike of Manchester, Brian Wendt of New York, Stacy Wendt Karam of Fairfax, Brent Johnson of Cedar Falls and Christopher Johnson of Ames; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a younger brother, Edward Friedmann of Dubuque; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alfred was preceded in death by his wife Emma on May 3, 2002; his parents George and Elizabeth Friedmann; five brothers, Peter, Clement, Anthony, Rev. Clarence and George; and four sisters, Sister Rosalita, Irene Demuth, Ann Gerken and Leonette Demuth; and a grandson, Loras Eike in 1987.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester.
