Alfred H. Berger, 86, of 208 7th Avenue, Marion, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Jonna Jensen. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 - 8 p.m. today (Wednesday.) Private burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include a daughter, Janie McGowan of Marion; three grandchildren, Casey (Jane), Adam (Julie) and Joby; and five great-grandchildren, Mackenzi, Abigail, Emilee, Stoan and Tripp.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty.

Al was born August 13, 1919, the son of Adolf and Berta (Brosanova) Berger, in Vienna, Austria. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Betty Allender on November 25, 1943, in Cedar Rapids. Betty died November 8, 2004. A longtime businessman,

Al was a furrier for seventy years and owned and operated Berger Furrier on Seventh Avenue in Marion.

He was a 20-year member of Marion Kiwanis and a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 6 AF&AM of Marion.

Al was an award-winning black and white photographer. He established a wildlife preserve near Coggon. Al was very patriotic and loved America and people in general.

A memorial fund has been established in Al?s name.
