Alden Benjamin Andersen, Jr., 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Visitation: 1 – 3 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Alden was born May 9, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Alden Benjamin and Gertrude M. (Baldwin) Andersen. He graduated from Washington High School in 1965, then served his country honorably in the United States Navy during Vietnam. Alden was united in marriage to Paula Werner in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Quaker Oats for over 35 years until his retirement.
He never missed a day of work. His work ethic and dedication was an inspiration to his children. Alden restored two old Studebaker trucks, one green, one blue. Through his love of restoration, he took up restoring Schwinn 50’s bicycles. Alden enjoyed his trips to the Riverside Casino. He was his grandchildren’s #1 fan. You could often find him at their sporting events, always cheering them on. He loved being a part of their lives. He will be dearly missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Andersen; children, Brian (Tricia) Andersen, Stephen (Tammy) Andersen, all of Cedar Rapids, and Lori (Steve) Slaymaker of Marion, Iowa; and grandchildren, Jacob, Jonathan, Alexandra, Haley, and Sydney.
Alden was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna Mae Newhard.
In lieu of flowers or money donations, the family asks that you bake cookies for your local firefighters.
