Albin M. Bries, 96, formerly of Delhi, died August 6, 2009 at the Ennoble Manor in Dubuque. .
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 10 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ryan by Frs. Marvin Bries and Greg Bahl. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home, Manchester, Iowa with a 2:00 p.m. Rosary Service and a 7:30 Scripture Service. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Ryan.
Albin was born on December 11, 1912 in Luxemburg, son of Aloysius and Susan (Meyer) Bries. He attended Holy Trinity School in Luxemburg. He operated the DX Service Station in Luxemburg until he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Albin married Geralda L. Kister of Dyersville on June 5, 1943, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. Albin and Geralda farmed between Ryan and Delhi for more than fifty years.
Albin was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ryan, the American Legion Post #692 in Ryan, the Farm Bureau, and he served several years on the Delaware County Extension Council. For the past three years, Albin resided at Ennoble Manor Care Center in Dubuque.
Surviving are a daughter, Janet L. (Perry) Pollock of Rockford, Illinois and a son, John A. (Patty) Bries of Dubuque; eight grandchildren, Laura (Ken) Arvesen of Roscoe, Illinois, Brian (Jennie) Pollock of Phoenix, Arizona, Mark (Jessica) Pollock of Centennial, Wyoming, John Pollock of Capitol Heights, Maryland, Jennifer (Chad) Chase of Waterloo, David (Christina) Bries of Ankeny, Bill Bries of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Katie Bries of Dubuque; six great grandchildren, Anja, Ingrid, and Gehrig Arvesen of Roscoe, Illinois, Zachary and Samuel Pollock of Phoenix, Arizona, and Katelyn Chase of Waterloo; a seventh great grandchild, Will Bries, expected soon in Ankeny; a sister, Ann Recker, of Manchester, two sisters-in-law, Florentine Bries of Luxemburg, and Wilma Nurre of Dyersville; and many nieces and nephews.
Albin was preceded in death by his wife, Geralda Bries in 1996; his parents; one sister, Verena Eichacker, and four brothers, Otto, Aloysius, Linus, and Leo Bries.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care given to Albin by Hospice of Dubuque, especially Sherry, Julie, and Jan, and to all of Albin’s caregivers at Ennoble Manor Care Center.
