Alberta Vera Napier, 94, a lifelong resident of Central City, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at York General Hearthstone in York, Nebraska, following a short illness. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Graveside services will be at Jordan’s Grove Cemetery, Central City at 9:30 a.m. Monday, November 12, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City by Rev. Richard Marsceau.

Survivors include two daughters, Floyda (Wilbert) Clayton of Benedict, Nebraska, and Marilyn (Laurin) White of Williamsburg, Virginia; and a son, Allen (Nancy) Napier of Verona, Italy.

Other survivors include a brother, William (Mary)Blount of Independence, Iowa; Nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Alberta was born July 11, 1913, the daughter of Albert and Vera (Henderson) Blount. She married Floyd Merritt in 1938. He died in 1940. She was later married to Arthur Dale Napier in 1944. He preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald, and step-son Lewis (Jack) Merritt.

Alberta was a teacher in the Central City elementary schools, retiring in 1975. She was a graduate of University of Northern Iowa, a member of Bible Community Church, Hills Mills Homemakers, Central City Historical Society, and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and family activities.

Memorials in memory of Alberta will be given to the Central City Historical Society.
