Alberta M. Kelly, 89, of 1030 Memorial Drive S.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, January 20, 2008, in the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa, following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at St. Judes Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Mark Reasoner. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a scripture service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Survivors include her children, Bill (Kathleen) Kelly of Sherman, Illinois, Jim (Jean Tomich) Kelly of Sandusky, Ohio and Kathy (Fred) Petersen of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Mike (Kim) Kelly, Lori Kelly, Dawn (Bob) Bullard, Daneen (Jeff) Silker, Amy (Phil) Niehaus, Tami (Doug) Theobald, Holly (Doug) Thompson, and Steve (Tasha) Petersen; 20 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and her special friend and companion, George Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; grandson, Matt Kelly; four brothers and five sisters.
Alberta was born February 12, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of William and Teresa (Murray) Kepler. On February 3, 1934, in Dubuque, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Robert H. Kelly. Robert died in 1990. She was an office clerk for Armstrongs Department Store.
Alberta was a member of St. Judes Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards, embroidering, fishing, going to the casino and most of all spending time with her family.
A memorial fund has been established in Alberta’s memory.
