Albert Smith, 67, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 24, 2021. A celebration of life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at New Creation International Church, 2929 E Court Street, Iowa City, Iowa 52245, with a visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Albert Smith was born on April 22, 1954, to Lebora Hull and Walter Smith in Marvell, Arkansas. He obtained his high school education at Westinghouse High School, Illinois, and his college education at Tyler Junior College, Texas.
Albert’s first place of employment was Berney Brother’s Bakery where he worked for many years, thereafter planting his feet at Rank Video for 20 plus years in Illinois. He loved jazz music, old school music, old western movies, family time, balling up in his room watching TV cuddled with his blanket. When he was driving he always loved washing his cars, driving around honking at the girls, and not putting gas in them. Football and basketball were his favorite sports, and the Chicago Bulls were his favorite team.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Tiffany Smith and LaShonta Flax, both of Chicago, Illinois; step-daughters, Synetta (Antwoine) and Ebony; step-son, Antonio, of Ames, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Michael, Jo’Say, Tasha, Shayla, Toni Maya, Martice, and Desmond, all of Illinois; two sisters, Emma Harris Trimble of Iowa, and Sherry Harris of Illinois; step-sister, Marlene (Tim); step-brother, George Harris (Karen) of Wisconsin; two God-sisters, Greta Carter and Adell Vasser (Gully); one aunt, Linda VanPelt; three nieces, Tammy Adams (Theris)of Chicago, Gwen Smith (Anthony), and Kimberly Harris of Iowa; great-great-nephews, Henry Barnes and Irving Harris, both of Iowa, Albert Harris and Nicolas Wise, both of Chicago; his one and only special great-great-niece, Breyana McPherson of Iowa; Jody and a host of grand-children, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and other loved ones.
Albert is preceded in death by his parents, Lebora Hull and Walter Smith, Sr.; brother, Clinton Smith; his only uncle, L.C. Hull, Sr.; step-sisters, Beverlee Wiliams and Chequita Harris; son, Marcus Wyett; niece, Iona Harris; cousin, L.C. Hull, Jr.; great-great-nephew, Tenacious Harris; and special friend, Synetta Hargrow.
