He was born on a farm October 15, 1938, near Waucoma, IA, the son of William F. Myers and Bertha M. (Drilling) Myers. Following his 1956 graduation from Waucoma H.S. Albert worked on the Leonard & Roberta Brannon farm and entered the U.S. Air Force December of 1957, where he received his technical training. He was stationed at Travis AFB at Fairfield, CA where he served until 1961. Al continued working at the AFB and Philco Co. following his honorable discharge before coming back to Iowa and working at Collins Radio Co. in August 1962. Al married Marlene Klopp in C.R. on November 28, 1964. They lived for over 37 years on acreage outside Alburnett where they raised their children. Al was proud to be the Bi-Centennial Chair for the town of Alburnett in 1976. He was also active many years in the Alburnett Lions Club. He retired from Rockwell Collins in 1996 in the electronics field, continuing to work on contract for a period of years. He enjoyed summer jobs at the Tuma Soccer Fields and Hunters’ Ridge Golf Course.

Al enjoyed life and was always grateful for his faith, family, friends, and community, even in final months of cancer. He was a charter member and active at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha, IA since 1989, where he served as an usher and catechist. Al was active in the Archdiocese of Dubuque Lay Formation and enjoyed teaming for retreats. He loved being involved as an associate with the PBVM’s (Presentation Sisters). Al was involved in the Marriage Encounter community, the Renegade Bicycle Group, the C.R. Optimists, and the American Legion Post at Waucoma.

Recent involvements include the Marion Sunrise Toastmasters Club and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He and Marlene were also active years ago in the Rapid Squares Square Dance Club.

Al loved being with his family and friends at “the Little Yellow House on the Root River Trail” in Whalan & Lanesboro, Minnesota, where he was also a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He had special interests in the outdoors, loving to garden, fish, bicycle, and golf. He biked with RAGBRAI a few years and enjoyed driving his Farmall B in the WMT Tractorcade and tandem bicycle riding with Marlene. Al especially enjoyed being Boppa to his granddaughters Jo Jo & Maya.
