Alan R. Christiansen, 39, of 445 Luther Street SW, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, October 18, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, from complications of kidney disease and a lengthy struggle with diabetes. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 21, 2004, at Christ Church Presbyterian, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ron Lewis. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Inurnment: 2 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2004, at Cedar Cemetery in Fonda, Iowa. Prior to the inurnment, the family will greet friends at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Fonda. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

Those who were blessed by the joy of his life include: his caregiver and friend, Harlan LeClere of Cedar Rapids; his father, Ralph Christiansen and wife Jane of Fonda; four sisters, Susan (Ron) Lewis of Cedar Rapids, Sherry (Fred) Smid of Houston, Texas, Sally Storm of Omaha, Nebraska, and Shelley (Kevin) Stumpf of Rolfe, Iowa; seven nieces, Amy Lewis, Lisa Lewis, Rebecca Storm, Sarah Ryan, Amanda Stumpf, Katherine Storm and Jennifer Stumpf; a nephew, Christopher Ryan; a great-nephew, Joey Lewis; a great-niece, Grace Lewis; and special friends, Michael McCraney and Richard Cleaver.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Diane, and his grandparents.

Alan was born the son of Ralph and Diane (Barlow) Christiansen on June 28, 1965, in Storm Lake, Iowa, and was raised in Fonda, Iowa. A graduate of Fonda High School in 1984, Alan attended Buena Vista University and Kirkwood Community College. After attending the culinary program at Kirkwood, Alan served as a chef for Waldo?s Restaurant, Coe College Food Services and Meth-Wick Manor. Alan was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids and was an active member of the Milestones Community, sharing his gift of arts and crafts as well as his gregarious and caring personality.

Alan?s hobbies included teddy bears, crafts and his love of cats.

A memorial fund has been established in Alan?s memory.
