Alan B. Campbell, 85, of 1650 Koehler Dr. NW, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, following a heart attack. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 28th at St. Paul?s United Methodist Church. Inurnment: St. Paul?s United Methodist Church Columbarium. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 65 years, Miriam; his children, Alan (Colleen) Campbell, Jr. of Elk Horn, Iowa, Kenneth (Stella) Campbell of Chicago, Illinois, Jeanne (Paul) Anderson of Spencer, Iowa, Gary (Mirasol) Campbell of Torrance, California, and Ronald Campbell of Marion, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Dawn (Nick) Rohrbacker, Ben Campbell, Rachel Anderson, Lindsey Anderson, Allison Campbell, Laura Campbell and Megan Campbell; and a brother, Verne (Ruth) Campbell of Storm Lake, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edgar; three sisters, Hilda, Irene and Katherine.
Alan was born September 26, 1921, the son of Emlin and Laura (Squires) Campbell in Chicago, Illinois. On December 27, 1941, he was united in marriage to Miriam Olson in Chicago. Alan is a graduate of Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana and received a Master?s degree in Hospital Administration from Northwestern University. As a hospital administrator, Alan worked at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois, St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, and Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, retiring in 1986.
He was an active member of St. Paul?s United Methodist Church, a Life Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives, an Honorary Life member and Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, a Life member of Goodwill Board of Directors and was a member of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (C.A.R.F). Alan had a deep love of family and was constantly in service to others.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charities of choice in memory of Alan.
