Agneta Janssen Miller, 91, a resident of Crestview Acres, Marion, died Monday, March 12, 2012, at the care center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, by Rev. Randy Kasch. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids and one hour prior to service on Thursday at the church. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Darlene Striegel, Jerry (Linda Lee) Miller, both of Cedar Rapids, Kathryn Sawicki of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Don (Sharon Dixon) Miller of Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Dolly Janssen and Dorothy Janssen, both of Monticello; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vic; three brothers, John, Edward and Arthur (Helen); and two sons-in-law, Edward Striegel and Jim Sawicki.
Agneta was born November 12, 1920, in Zetal, Germany, the daughter of John and Margareta (Wolken) Janssen. She came to America with her parents and older brother in October, 1924. Agneta attended school in Jones County and helped on the farm. On January 3, 1940, she was united in marriage to C. Victor Miller at St. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church in Castle Grove, Iowa. Agneta raised her family and worked at Truman School and then at Taft School, retiring in 1983.
Agneta and Vic were founding members of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. The couple met on a dance floor and they enjoyed dancing and camping together. Agneta also enjoyed sewing, ceramics and bowling.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association or Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in memory of Agneta.
