Agnes "Mert" Mcelligott

Agnes “Mert” McElligott, 95, a resident of Crestview Acres Care Center, Marion, died Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the care center. The family will greet guests from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Ryan, Iowa.
Survivors include her three sons, Dennis (Kathy) McElligott of Cedar Rapids, David (Jill) McElligott of Bothel, WA, and Mark McElligott of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Erin and Bailey McElligott, Misty (Randy) Newman, and Valorie (Randy) Jones; and five great-grandchildren, Josh Newman, Daxton and Carter Burger, Keeli Walton, and Tristan Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; son, Joseph; and brothers, Art, Bud and Earl Carlton.
Agnes was born May 20, 1919, in Woonsocket, South Dakota, the daughter of Elmer and Phoebe (Fee) Carlton. She married Francis “Frank” McElligott on May 19, 1944, in San Lorenzo, CA. Agnes worked as a dietician at Crestview Acres for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 692 of Ryan.
