Agnes M. Eike, 79, of Manchester, died Wednesday afternoon, February 11, 2004 at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester, with Rev. Msgr. Ralph Simington officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester where there will be a Rosary service at 3:00. There will also be visitation one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
Agnes was born on August 16, 1924 in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Meinrad & Theresia (Kessler) Egloff. She attended school in the Earlville area and helped on the family farm. On August 16, 1948 Agnes was united in marriage to LaVerne J. Eike at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Earlville. The couple farmed in the Manchester area before moving to town in 1979.
Agnes was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church where she served as past-president of the Rosary Society. Agnes? hobbies included dancing, playing cards, crocheting and collecting and driving John Deere tractors in parades. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandson, Caleb.
Agnes is survived by her husband, LaVerne Eike of Manchester; a daughter, Shirley (Dennis) Lyons of Manchester; one grandson, Caleb Lyons; two sisters, Cora Lentner of Marion and Cordella (Ken) Powell of Northglen, CO; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Eike of Dyersville and Eileen Egloff of Lamont; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and her husband, Loretta & William Hildebrand; a brother, Frank Egloff; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Emil Lentner, Leo Eike, and Clarence & Anita Eike and Delores (Eike) & Linus Hoeger.
