Adria Ellen Grant

Adria Ellen Grant, 90, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died March 21st at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
She was born May 29, 1916 in Marshalltown, daughter of Porter and Nina Griswold Landis. Following her 1936 high school graduation in Marengo, Adria completed cosmetology school in Cedar Rapids and styled hair at Cleona?s Beauty Salon in Iowa City.
Adria married Junius Anerd Grant in Manhattan Beach, California in 1941. They worked at McDonald Aircraft Plant until Junius entered WWII. Adria was a stylist in New York City, later moving to Cedar Rapids where she purchased and ran a beauty shop.
After having her daughters, in 1961 she resumed her career at Methwick Manor Beauty Shop. Adria and Junius divorced in 1967. She retired from Methwick in 1986 after 25 years. Adria belonged to St. Mark?s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
Adria moved near her daughter and family in Iowa City in 1999, and suffered from dementia during her final years.
Survivors include: daughter Deborah A. Rothe, son-in-law James, and granddaughter Lauren of Kennett Square, PA; daughter Christine Gnade, son-in-law Gary, granddaughter Allison of Iowa City; grandsons Aaron in Texas and Garrett in North Carolina; sister Catherine E. Wandling of Marengo; nieces and nephews; and the wonderful staff that cared for her at Oaknoll.
Her parents, sister Eleanor Day, half sister Louise Dale, and former husband died earlier.
Throughout her long life Adria found support in God, nature, friendships, family and pets. She enjoyed gardening, homemaking, travel, Chataquas, swimming, and the beauty of life.
