A. Bernadine Roberts, 94, of Monticello, formerly of Central City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center, Monticello. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home conducted by Brother Farley Gerber. Burial will take place at Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City.

Bernadine was born November 26, 1923, in Waubeek, Iowa, the only daughter of Nelson and Iris (Lake) Van Horn. She attended Hoosier Bend Country School near Waubeek and graduated from Springville High School in 1941. She lived in the Springville, Waubeek and Central City area with the exception of 20 years in Las Vegas, Nevada. She worked at Sears in Cedar Rapids as an Interior Decorator after leaving the farm, and while living in Nevada, she worked at Hayes Real Estate, Conrad’s Western Store and J.C. Penney Company where she retired in 1986. Bernadine moved backed to Iowa in 1988. She loved to garden, cook, and “dance up a storm”. Bernie joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1965 and has been active there as Primary teacher, visiting teaching, and First Counselor to the Relief Society President. She loved animals and had many dogs and horses in her life time.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Vern McShane of Central City; daughter, Sara (Bob) Lawrence of Delhi; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Preceding Bernadine in death were her parents; former husbands, Orville McShane and Bruce A. Roberts; sons, Martin McShane and David McShane; and daughter-in-law, Nancy McShane.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Center Point Area Ambulance Service or a charity of the donor’s choice.
