Richard Theodore Jacobson, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, December 12, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at the church. Inurnment will be at East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church Cemetery, Waterville, Iowa, at a later date. Arrangements by: Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Charlotte; children, Kristine Davison of Ankeny, and David Jacobson of Marion; a sister, Marion Bennett of Marion; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Karen Busness of Marion; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law Holger and Julia Busness; a brother-in-law, Douglas Bennett; and son-in-law Brent Davison.
Richard was born on August 3, 1930, the son of Theodore and Minnie (Leikvold) Jacobson, in Waukon, Iowa. He graduated from Waterville High School. Richard served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1954. After his time in the military he went on to graduate from Luther College in 1956. He attended the Writer’s Workshop at the University of Iowa. On August 18, 1957, Richard married Charlotte Theresa Busness. Richard worked as a television writer and creative director for WMT-TV and KGAN from 1957 until his retirement in 1995.
Richard was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, and an active participant of several church groups. He had a lifelong passion for both reading and writing, and was an amazing letter writer. He enjoyed traveling and woodworking. His writings include ABC Children’s Book, A Family Farm History, and an article “The Church on the Hill.” He also wrote the prayer for the prayer shawls that are given by the church.
